Incidents

Incidents occur all across the Palpagos Islands. These spawns may range from spawning Pals, to hostile enemy Factions, as well as friendly humans, including merchants.

A Relaxaurus encountered at (154, -442), in view of the Rayne Syndicate Tower. Multiple different Incident spawns can be found at this early hotspot.

Overview

Pals may randomly spawn in their designated Habitats, as seen through the ingame Paldeck. Each Pal has its own weighted distribution, making some Pals rarer than others, such as Dinossom (3%) being far less common than Cattiva (40%). Lucky Pals are variants of Pals with unique traits, and these are known to spawn wherever their species' natural Habitat is.

Certain points across the overworld are hotspots for rare Incidents, a hidden mechanic that spawns specific entities, or groups of entities, across the Palpagos Islands at a very low chance. These can be enemy ambushes, friendly humans (including merchants), or even opportunities to capture rare Pals, including some that do not have a listed Habitat on the Paldeck.

When an Incident occurs, it is chosen from a potential pool of encounters that is specific to that general region - for example, one can never find a naturally-spawning Jolthog Cryst Incident outside of Windswept Hills.

Randomly-spawning Item Merchants encountered in a region can sell the same set of items across multiple different encounters, such as the same three Skill Fruits and medicines.

It is not known if a Pal that appears via an Incident can be a Lucky.

Types of Incidents

The game's code categorizes several different types of Incidents, though they all may appear in the same hotspots.

Pal Incidents

They often have a specific group of different Pals appearing simultaneously, but can simply be solo Pals.

  • Spawn Pal Battle: Pals engaged in combat can be encountered. These conflicts may involve Pals of the same species or entirely different ones, such as two Mammorest fighting each other or a solo Flopie being hunted by multiple Galeclaw.
  • Spawn Pal Group: A specific group of Pals can be encountered. These may involve Pals of the same species or entirely different ones, such as or a Robinquill and a Bristla walking alongside each other or two Caprity walking in a group.
  • Spawn Pal: A specific solo Pal can be encountered such as a solo Dinossom or a lone Relaxaurus.

Human Incidents

They include travelling merchants and hostile Factions.

  • Spawn Human Battle: Humans engaged in combat can be encountered. These only involves clash between human (and not the conflict between humans and pals). A prominent examples is the conflict between factions.
  • Spawn Human Group: A specific group of Pals can be encountered, such as a group of specific faction members or a Wandering Merchant with armed guards.
  • Spawn Human: A specific solo Pal can be encountered such as a Black Marketeer.

Outbreak Incidents

Where a large group of Pals may spawn all at once.

  • Spawn Herd: A large group of Pals may spawn all at once. Swarms may include Pal species not native to the region, such as Mossanda Lux in the Desiccated Desert. Not all outbreaks are of equal size. An outbreak of Arsox may come in a group of 7, whereas an outbreak of Pengullet may come in a group of 9.

Notes

  • All across the map can appear other pal encounters not so special, like Mammorest vs Mammorest, a little herd attacking and hunting another pal (Direhowls vs Jolthog Cryst, Galeclaws vs Flopie and Yakumos vs Dogen) or the zone faction attacking a pal (the only one being special is some Free Pal Alliance atacking a Robinquill and Bristla at the same time that are allies between themselves, both Lv21 at Ancient Ritual Site)
  • Another random NPC encounters that are not restricted to zones are: 2 Guards (PDIF skin and named different than the Dessicated Dessert event) and 1 Wanderer merchant, 3 Burly Mercs fighting Syndicate, 1 Pal Merchant being attacked by 3 Syndicate, random faction vs faction fights (a variation of the Pyre Martyr appears in one of those and maybe the Executioner variation with flamethrower but i only saw that one on that faction's raid to the base) and Shady Pal Merchant with Nox seems to reappear in the 4 high lv zones.
  • The event zones marked and even the ones not marked, can have or not have an incident. Sometimes it's empty. Sometimes there is a herd of pals. Sometimes a fight. Sometimes a Nest. Sometimes some faction enemies. And sometimes for some reason 3 random Tocotocos at Lv10-11 (This happens across all the map, even Sakurajima).
