Players
The Player is the character controlled by a real-life person in Palworld. Players explore the world, gather resources, build bases, craft equipment, battle enemies, and interact with Pals for combat, work, transportation, and support.
Player survival and progression are governed by several interconnected systems, including Health, Shield, Hunger, Temperature, Stats, Equipment, and Inventory, all of which can be improved through leveling, gear, and upgrades. In multiplayer, Players can form Guilds to share bases, storage, and workstations.
Core Survival Systems
Core Survival Systems govern whether a Player can withstand environmental hazards, sustain damage, and recover from defeat. These mechanics work together to determine how long a Player can survive and how mistakes are punished.
Health
Health is represented by a green bar and a heart icon. When a Player’s Health reaches 0, the outcome depends on multiplayer conditions.
If a living Guild member is online, the Player is downed instead of killed and can be revived. If no eligible Guild member is present, the Player dies immediately.
Hunger
Hunger is displayed as an orange bar with a bread icon and gradually depletes over time. As Hunger decreases, the Player begins to suffer stat penalties that reduce overall effectiveness.
If Hunger becomes critically low, the Player will take starvation damage. Starvation damage cannot down or kill the Player or their Pals, but it can significantly hinder survival if left unmanaged.
Temperature
Temperature reflects how environmental conditions affect the Player and is shown as a notched semicircle meter. Exposure to extreme heat or cold can cause damage or apply negative status effects.
These effects can be mitigated through proper preparation, such as wearing appropriate armor, consuming certain foods, or avoiding hazardous environments.
Death
When a Player dies, their inventory items and party Pals are dropped into a Death Chest. Death Chests are marked on the map and compass, making them easier to locate.
Death Chests do not despawn naturally, but each Player may only have up to nine active Death Chests at a time. If a new Death Chest is created beyond this limit, the oldest one is removed. Depending on World Settings, other Players may be able to loot Death Chests.
Player Stats & Progression
Players grow stronger over time by leveling up and investing points into core stats. These stats influence combat effectiveness, survivability, mobility, and efficiency while working at a base.
Each time a Player levels up, they may allocate stat points to customize their playstyle, allowing them to specialize in combat, resource gathering, or base management.
Player Stats
The Player has five primary stats, each with a base value and a maximum limit. Increasing these stats improves performance in specific areas:
| Stat | Base Value | Growth per Level | Maximum Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP | 100 | +100 | 5000 |
| Stamina | 100 | +10 | 590 |
| Attack | 100 | +2 | 198 |
| Work Speed | 100 | +50 | 2550 |
| Weight | 300 | +50 | 2750 |
Health
Health determines how much damage a Player can sustain before being downed or killed. Increasing HP through stat investment greatly improves survivability, especially during combat or exploration in dangerous areas.
Stamina
Stamina governs actions such as sprinting, climbing, gliding, and performing certain combat maneuvers. A higher Stamina stat allows the Player to remain mobile for longer periods without exhaustion.
Attack
Attack increases the damage dealt by the Player’s weapons. While equipment contributes heavily to damage output, Attack provides a reliable baseline that scales as the Player progresses.
Work Speed
Work Speed affects how quickly the Player performs tasks such as crafting, building, and gathering resources. This stat is especially important for Players who focus on base development and production efficiency.
Weight
Weight determines the maximum amount of items the Player can carry before becoming encumbered. Increasing Weight allows the Player to transport more resources without movement penalties, reducing the need for frequent storage trips.
Equipment & Gear Systems
Equipment allows Players to improve their combat effectiveness, survivability, and utility. Unlike stat progression, which permanently enhances a Player’s abilities, equipment provides flexible bonuses that can be changed to suit different situations.
Players equip gear through dedicated equipment slots, each designed for a specific category of item.
Equipment Slots
Players have the following equipment slots available:
- 4 Weapon slots
- 4 Accessory slots
- A Head slot
- A Body slot
- A Shield slot
- A Glider slot
- A Sphere Module slot
- 5 Food slots
Each equipped item may provide stat bonuses, special effects, or new mechanics depending on its type.
Shields
Shields provide a protective barrier that absorbs damage before it affects Health. Shield strength is displayed as a blue bar above the Health bar.
Players begin the game with no Shield and must equip a Shield item to gain protection. Shield damage does not overflow into Health, ensuring the Player survives at least one hit regardless of damage taken. Shields regenerate automatically over time, typically faster than Health.
| Item | Durability | Shield |
|---|---|---|
| 21000 | 1800 | |
| 1000 | 100 | |
| 2250 | 540 | |
| 3500 | 1045 | |
| 1500 | 260 | |
| 20000 | 1520 |
Sphere Modules
Sphere Modules are optional equipment items that modify how Spheres function when capturing Pals. They are crafted at the Sphere Workbench and Sphere Assembly Lines and are equipped directly in the Player’s Inventory.
Equipping a Sphere Module is not required to capture Pals, but doing so can significantly alter capture behavior, such as increasing capture power, extending throw range, or adding homing or curve effects.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Equipping it causes the sphere to spin with a curved trajectory. It becomes easier to catch Pals off guard, and increases capture power. | |
| Equipping it makes the sphere heavier, reducing its range but increasing its capture power. | |
| Equipping it makes the sphere home in on Pals, further increasing capture power. | |
| Equipping it adds a slider spin to the sphere. The sphere curves at a sharp angle, making it easier to catch Pals off guard and increasing capture power. | |
| Equipping it increases the sphere's range, allowing it to sharply capture Pals and enhancing capture power. | |
| Equipping it significantly increases the sphere's range, allowing it to sharply capture Pals and enhancing capture power. |
Accessories, Armor, and Utility Gear
In addition to weapons and shields, Players can equip other gear such as armor, accessories, or utility gear like gliders. These items often provide stat bonuses, resistances, or movement-related abilities that help the Player adapt to different environments and combat scenarios.
Because equipment can be swapped at any time, Players are encouraged to adjust their loadout based on exploration needs, combat difficulty, or environmental conditions.
Inventory & Items
Players carry items such as tools, weapons, materials, and consumables in their Inventory. Inventory management plays a major role in exploration and base development, as weight limits and available space can restrict how much a Player can carry at once.
Depending on World Settings, a Player’s inventory may be dropped upon death and stored in a Death Chest, allowing it to be recovered later.
Easy Bulk Storage
Easy Bulk Storage allows Players to quickly store items while at a base. When activated, items in the Player’s Inventory are automatically transferred into nearby storage containers that already contain matching items.
The default keybind for Easy Bulk Storage is R while the Inventory is open, though it can also be accessed via a button in the Inventory interface. This feature helps streamline inventory management during large crafting or gathering sessions.
Key Items
Key Items are special items that provide permanent or unlockable functionality rather than consumable effects. They are most commonly used as Pal Gear to unlock or enhance Partner Skills.
Key Items do not have any weight and cannot be removed from the Player’s Inventory, ensuring they are always available once obtained.
Pals
Players can capture, command, and interact with Pals throughout the game. Pals serve many roles, including combat companions, workers at bases, mounts for travel, and sources of unique Partner Skills.
Effective use of Pals is a core part of progression, allowing Players to overcome stronger enemies, automate resource production, and explore hazardous environments more safely.
Sleep
Players can sleep in Beds to pass time and advance from night to day. Sleeping provides a safe way to avoid nighttime dangers and can be used strategically to manage exploration or base activities.
Multiplayer & Guilds
In multiplayer worlds, Players may form or join a Guild. Guild members share access to Bases and can freely use workstations built by other members of the same Guild.
Storage containers may also be accessed unless they are password protected. Players cannot interact with Bases, storage, or workstations owned by members of other Guilds, helping prevent unauthorized access in shared worlds.
