Biography

Marcus Dryden is a proud, arrogant, and intelligent man who is also a master manipulator and schemer. Duneshelter has a severe issue with people using stims and because of how severe it is, Marcus give up on even trying to control it and instead decided to exploit it for his benefit by selling stims. These stims would be sold to those addicts and the Palapagos Islands Defense Force (PIDF) would be sent to arrest and fine them. They confiscated the stims, which then go back to Marcus, who sells them again. He doesn’t allow anyone to sell stims without his permission and anyone who is caught are dealt with.

Despite Marcus exploiting the stims issue to increase his wealth, his intervention benefited the area greatly, allowing the villagers to live more safely. Before his arrival, the place was crawling with criminals, who made the life for the villages a daily struggle between life and death. One of the villagers mentioned that they couldn't go about their daily lives without the constant fear of being mugged or killed until Marcus arrived and got the PIDF involved. The villagers are grateful to him for that. The PIDF are also dispatched to protect settlements from the Rayne Syndicate’s raids on them around the islands, and they investigate their activities, such as the operation they run on their oil rig.

The only one who Marcus genuinely cares about is his partner, Faleris. He has a close relationship with Faleris that is built on mutual trust, as they both view each other as partners and watch out for each other's backs. Marcus enjoys Faleris' company, keeping him out of his Pal Sphere to talk to him. Marcus and Faleris are not different from each other, as they both view the island as a playground and both like playing in their own way. Faleris is free to roam around and if he spots an intruder, he will attack, kill, and eat them without Marcus even being around to give the command. Since he is under Marcus’s protection, he does not face any consequences for his actions. For instance, when Faleris ate a Rayne Syndicate thug early that day, he looked at Marcus expecting a treat, but Marcus had none on him and instead told Faleris he could eat the white sand if he wanted, which he always provides for his partner and which Faleris enjoy greatly.

Marcus does not have issue working with other faction leaders. Lily, the Free Pal Alliance (FPA) leader, after discovering the Wildlife Sanctuary’s islets, made a contract with Marcus so that the PIDF will protect these areas. This contract also made Lilly aware that some of her followers might be involved in suspicious activities she was not aware of, because of how they were able to bring large amounts of money for the contract, claiming it was from raiding Rayne Syndicate poachers’ camps. Marcus honored the contract with Lily and stationed the PIDF officers there to guard the Wildlife Sanctuary’s islets as per the contract.

Trivia

  • Marcus is one of the original five tower bosses that were first released alongside Axel, Zoe, Lily and Victor.
  • Marcus and Faleris are the first tower boss with aerial battle.
  • Marcus seems to trust Faleris greatly, as they both watch out for each other's backs like partners. This trust extends to the point that Marcus would not mind if Faleris were to eat him one day.
  • Marcus' Faleris is a male.
  • Marcus made Faleris the PIDF symbol.
  • It's unclear if the White Sand Faleris eats is a drug. If it is, then it is unknown whether it has the same effect on Pals that it has on human beings. It is possible that it's not different from when the player use potions on their Pals.
    • It’s presumed the White Sand are crushed Cinnamoth scales. If so, it might just be another source of food or a treat for Faleris, as Marcus hasn’t mentioned any side effects for it other than Faleris enjoying it. However, a side effect is mentioned for humans in Cinnamoth Palpedia entry. This mirrors how animals can eat certain things safely while humans can’t due to health risks.
  • In the Japanese version and within the game files, Faleris is called "Horus". Horus is the flacon-headed Egyptian god of vengeance, who avenged the death of his father, Osiris, by killing his uncle, Set.
    • In the English version, it is referenced in-game when Marcus Dryden calls his Faleris "Horus" in their boss intro screen.
  • It's possible that Marcus and Faleris are a reference to Gears of War characters Marcus Fenix. Marcus' partner Faleris is a phoenix, but this could be a coincidence.
