Afflictions

Afflictions are various conditions that Pals can suffer from. Deployed Pals (I. E. the active Pal in the party or the Pals you've set to work at your base using the Palbox) can attain afflictions through certain circumstances.

Work-related conditions

Injury

These are conditions that the player's pals will develop while being low on Sanity and working at a base. These are temporary and just need the pals to rest up, either in bed or by being sent to the Palbox icon.png  Palbox. They are usually indicated by certain health thresholds. It signifies a deployed pal's health, and will appear when they get hurt (either through a fight or environmental means). Different injury-afflictions will appear based on the severity of the injury. When a pal heals back to full health, "Injury" will disappear. Pals inside of a Palbox will heal quicker than deployed Pals. Here's a rundown of all the injuries and their severity:

  • Minor Injury: A minor injury is a relatively small health concern for your Pal. It won't prevent them from battling or working, but it will slowly drain their health over time. If left untreated, a minor injury can worsen to a major injury, which is much more serious. The simplest way to heal a minor injury is to let them rest. Their health will slowly regenerate over time.
  • Major Injury: Pals with Major Injury are badly hurt, and it will take longer for them to heal. Once they heal back to a certain percentage of their max health, the Major Injury affliction is replaced by Minor Injury.
  • Incapacitated: Incapacitated Pals have lost all health, and lost consciousness as a result. They will not regenerate their health back over time, and the only way to heal them is to revive them in a Palbox. Incapacitated Pals act identically to corpses left behind by slain enemies. When a Pal has been incapacitated, other Pals with the Handiwork icon.png  Handiwork Work Suitability will attempt to rescue them (if they're not too busy getting killed themselves), but by far the easiest way to help Incapacitated Pals is by moving them from the "Pals at the base" section to one of the Boxes in the Palbox. By default, it will take 10 minutes for them to revive, and longer to regenerate back to full health.

Deficit of SAN

Sanity (SAN) is one of a pal's three bars, next to hunger and health. When a deployed Pal has a good level of SAN, it will display "In good condition!" in the Base Info HUD. If their SAN lowers (caused by things such as a lack of a pal bed or from being overworked), they will become less and less motivated to work, and will outright refuse to do it more and more frequently. Once a stressed pal reaches a certain threshold, they will become "Extremely unhealthy due to neglect", and will look sombre, unless another animation (such as relaxing in a {I|Hot Spring}}) overrides their facial expression. Here are all of the illnesses Pals can suffer:

  • Sick/Cold: Work Speed of the Pal is decreased by 10. Low Grade Medical Supplies icon.png  Low Grade Medical Supplies is required to remove this status condition.
  • Sprain: Movement Speed of the Pal is decreased by 10. Low Grade Medical Supplies icon.png  Low Grade Medical Supplies is required to remove this status condition.
  • Overfull: Hunger depletion amount of the Pal is decreased by 100. Low Grade Medical Supplies icon.png  Low Grade Medical Supplies required to remove this status condition.
  • Ulcer: Work Speed and Movement Speed of the Pal is decreased by 20 and 10 respectively. Medical Supplies icon.png  Medical Supplies is required to remove this status condition.
  • Fracture: Work Speed and Movement Speed of the Pal is decreased by 10 and 20 respectively. Medical Supplies icon.png  Medical Supplies is required to remove this status condition.
  • Weakened: Work Speed and Movement Speed of the Pal is decreased by 20 and 30 respectively. High Grade Medical Supplies icon.png  High Grade Medical Supplies is required to remove this status condition.
  • Depressed: Work Speed and Movement Speed of the Pal is decreased by 30 and 20 respectively. High Grade Medical Supplies icon.png  High Grade Medical Supplies is required to remove this status condition.

Deficit of SAT

Satiety (SAT), also known as Hunger, is a stat that reflects how full your Pal is after eating. It's essentially a measure of their fullness meter. Each Pal has a satiety gauge displayed on their information panel. This gauge fills up when they eat food and depletes over time as they perform actions. Different foods offer varying degrees of satiety. Simple berries might only fill a small portion of the gauge, while a hearty meal can provide significant satiety. You can check the Nutrition information of food items to see their satiety value. Players also have a SAT meter, and are subject to the same effects. Here's a breakdown of what might be going on:

  • Hungry: When a deployed Pal hasn't eaten in a while, the "Base Info" HUD will display this, and a floating bread symbol will appear above them. Pals in the party will automatically eat from the Feed Box icon.png  Feed Box if the player has one with food or from a food slot while the player has a Small Feed Bag icon.png  Small Feed Bag or subsequent items. Pals working at the base will eat automatically from a Feed Box. However, sometimes they can get stuck in structures or spots of the map, making them unable to eat. Returning them to the Palbox before immediately deploying them will unstick them and allow them to eat again.
  • Starving: If the satiety gauge is fully depleted, the Pal will begin starving. While starving, the Pal will rapidly lose health over time and will not regenerate health, but this effect cannot incapacitate them. Feeding a Starving Pal will remove this status.
