Elements

From Palworld Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Elements are attributes possessed by every Pal and by every Active Skill, affecting its abilities in battle. Every Pal has at least one Element (sometimes two), and every Active Skill has one Element.

Moves with Elements that are strong against the target Pal's element will deal more damage, and moves with Elements that are weak against the target Pal's element will deal less damage.

NPCs do not have Elements.

Overview

Elements are one of the core gameplay mechanics of the game, being an innate part of a Pal that affects their behaviour and how they function in certain situations, such as in battle.

Each Pal has either one or two elements. For example, Dazzi icon.png  Dazzi is a Pal with the Electric icon.png  Electric element, while Relaxaurus icon.png  Relaxaurus is a Pal that has both the Dragon icon.png  Dragon and Water icon.png  Water elements.

Available Elements

There are a total of 9 Elements in the game.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Each Pal possesses an elemental affinity, and each element has elements that it is strong or weak against.
Elemental attacks deal more damage to elements they are strong against and less damage to elements they are weak against.

In-game Survival Guide description about "Elements"

Each Element has one other Element which it is weak to, and zero to two Elements which it is strong against.

Active Skills whose Element is strong against the target Pal deal 2x damage to that Pal, and Active Skills whose Element is weak against the target Pal deal 0.5x damage to that Pal.

Active Skills whose Element is neither strong nor weak against the target Pal will have a 1x damage multiplier. This includes Active Skills whose Element matches that of the target Pal.

Active Skills whose Element is both strong and weak against the target Pal (for example, using a Grass icon.png  Grass Element Active Skill against Reptyro icon.png  Reptyro, which is both Fire icon.png  Fire and Ground icon.png  Ground) will have a 1x damage multiplier.

Presumably, Active Skills whose Element is doubly strong against the target Pal or doubly weak against the target Pal will deal 4x and 0.25x damage respectively, but neither are possible in the current version of the game.

Elemental Effectiveness

It is a relationships between different elements and how they affect the damage dealt in combat. It's a crucial aspect of strategic gameplay, allowing you to exploit enemy weaknesses and minimize your own vulnerabilities. Here's a breakdown of the key points:

Type of Effectiveness

  • Super Effective: When you use a move of an element that is strong against your opponent's element, it deals 150% damage. For example, using a Water icon.png  Water attack on a Fire icon.png  Fire-type Pal would be super effective.
  • Neutral: If your move's element has no inherent advantage or disadvantage against the opponent, it deals 100% damage. This is the standard case for most matchups.
  • Not Effective: When your move's element is weak against the opponent's element, it deals only 50% damage. For example, using a Ground icon.png  Ground attack on a Grass icon.png  Grass-type Pal would be not effective.

Dual Elements

Many Pals have two elements, inheriting strength and weaknesses from both. A Dragon icon.png  Dragon/Electric icon.png  Electric Pal would be strong against Dark icon.png  Dark and Water icon.png  Water type attacks but weak against Ice icon.png  Ice and Ground icon.png  Ground type attacks.

Additional Factors

While effectiveness is crucial, other factors like individual Pal stats, movesets, and abilities can also influence damage.

Utilizing Effectiveness

Understanding effectiveness is essential for building effectiveness teams. By strategically choosing Pals based on your opponents' elements, you can significantly increase your damage output and gain an advantage in battle.

Here are some additional details that might be helpful:

  • Critical Hits: Regardless of effectiveness, critical hits deal double damage.
  • Status Effects: Some moves can inflict status effects like burn or poison, which can further weaken opponents or benefit your team.

History

Trivia

  • Fire icon.png  Fire is the only element in the game to be strong against two different elements i.e. Ice icon.png  Ice and Grass icon.png  Grass.
  • Neutral icon.png  Neutral is the only element in the game that is not particularly strong against other element.
  • There is no Pal subspecies with the Neutral icon.png  Neutral element.
