Zoe Rayne is one of the Faction Leaders in Palworld. She is the leader of the Rayne Syndicate Rayne Syndicate and her partner Pal is Grizzbolt Grizzbolt, with her Tower Tower being located in the Windswept Hills.

Zoe can also be recruited as an ally after defeating her for the first time.

Characteristics

Appearance

Zoe is a young woman with fair skin and pink eyes. Her hair is tied into two pigtails, with the left being black and the right being pink, but her bangs have the opposite colors of her pigtails, with the pink on the left and black on the right. She has a black choker and black-dyed fingernails. Around her neck, she wears a necklace with a green gem in the middle.

Her black beanie has two ear-like shapes that are meant to loosely resemble Grizzbolt ears. It has different patches on it, including one resembling a pink triangle, pink lightning, and a Sparkit Sparkit logo. There are also two safety pins attached to the beanie on the left side.

She wears a short black leather jacket with pink lines on the sleeves and pink flared sleeves showing from underneath the jacket sleeves. A red armband is on the jacket’s left sleeve. The pink tube top she wears has a black lightning pattern.

Her layered short skirt has the top layer being black leather with a pink line, while the underlayer color is pink, both held by a black belt. Over the top layer of the skirt, she has a belt decorated with silver triangle studs, and on the left side of her belt, there is a Grizzbolt plush keychain.

Zoe wears one long torn stocking on her right leg, which fades from pink at the bottom to black at the top, while the one on her left leg is not torn and has pink and black lines on it. She also has a thigh strap on her left side and wears short black boots.

Biography

History

Not much is known about Zoe's childhood, but it is known is that her father once served under Bjorn Seligsson, the leader of the Feybreak Warriors Feybreak Warriors. When Zoe was a baby, Bjorn gave her father one final task to complete before the two parted ways. While this task was said to be easy, Zoe's father never returned from his mission, leaving his followers without leadership. These followers would later reorganize themselves into the Rayne Syndicate and adopted Zoe as one of their own. However, Zoe believed that their acts of kindness toward her were more out of obligation because she was the daughter of their former leader, a belief she still holds even after taking charge.

When Zoe was a child, she met her Grizzbolt after seeing her locked in a cage at a Syndicate base. The Syndicate members had planned on selling Grizzbolt, though Zoe took pity on her, the former's loneliness reminding Zoe of her own. One night, when all the Syndicate members were asleep, Zoe unlocked Grizzbolt's cage and ran off with her, sharing some of her food with the Pal the following morning. However, hunger soon set in again and the two were forced to return in the evening, with the Syndicate members furious at Zoe's actions. They proceeded to lock the two in a cage, though Grizzbolt easily protected the young Zoe from any harm. This made Zoe realize that Grizzbolt may have never even tried to escape, even though she clearly could have with ease. At Zoe's command, Grizzbolt summoned a huge bolt of lightning that knocked out all the Syndicate members, who didn't wake up until the next morning. From that day on, the two became inseparable.

Though Zoe would later become the Rayne Syndicate's new leader, she was still left with plenty of unanswered questions. One such question was the reasoning behind the constant conflict between the Syndicate and the Free Pal Alliance Free Pal Alliance, a faction that opposes them because of the Syndicate's methods of using weapons and their treatment of Pals. Zoe assumed that the FPA were not bad guys due to their love of Pals, though their extremism and fanatic ways were something she was unaware of. She tried asking a Syndicate veteran about it, though he merely told her that both factions have been around for a long time and have always been in conflict. He also told her that the Syndicate and FPA have been fighting for so long that peace between them would be impossible.

Zoe would also find herself pondering on both the world beyond the sea and the Tower she guarded. She'd heard stories of how a brave man tried sailing out into the sea, but never came back. She also heard about people coming from beyond the sea and using tools different from the Palpagos Islands' natives. The stories scared her, though they did little to halt her dreams of leaving to experience the outside world, which she hopes to do one day.

As for the Tower, Zoe would often question why she even bothered guarding it, initially only doing it because her father once guarded it. She then recalled hearing about a legend passed down on the Palpagos Islands and the Tower having some sort of great power that must be protected, though she questioned whether or not the power was even real and why it needed protection. Nevertheless, Zoe would continue to uphold her duty and protect her Tower, also being aware of the other Towers and how others like her guarded them.

In Palworld

Zoe is first encountered at her Tower in the Windswept Hills, being the first Faction Leader the player is expected to fight. After defeating her in battle, she will appear at the Desolate Church and can be spoken to. If the player speaks with her, she will give them a mission to capture a Grizzbolt from the No. 1 Wildlife Sanctuary. After capturing a Grizzbolt and showing it to her, Zoe will then give the player another mission in which they must defeat or capture 5 Free Pal Alliance members, as she is itching for payback against them. Once the FPA members are defeated and/or captured, Zoe will then give the player one final mission: to find her old sleeping blankie from when she ran away with Grizzbolt. Upon returning the blankie (which is found at coordinates 186, -379), Zoe will have a much warmer disposition towards the player and state that she didn't even know what she was protecting in the first place, deciding instead to join the player on their journey and maybe even one day leave to see the outside world.

As an Ally

After completing Zoe's third and final mission, she will automatically be captured as a level 1 Zoe & Grizzbolt. This is effectively a reskinned Grizzbolt that allows the player to mount it side-by-side with Zoe. However, this version also has no gender and, as such, cannot breed with other Pals.

Zoe can also be captured as a regular level 15 human. As a human, she has Lvl 2 Handiwork Handiwork and fights with her Assault Rifle Assault Rifle. However, like other humans, Zoe has no gender and is unable to breed.

Trivia

  • Zoe's Grizzbolt is female.
  • When petting Zoe & Grizzbolt, Zoe will hop off of Grizzbolt & it while the player pets Zoe.
  • The recruitable Zoe & Grizzbolt is similar to the day 1 capture glitch Zoe & Grizzbolt, albeit with less health & unbreedable.
  • When petting Zoe, Zoe will turn away & from the player & pout before turning towards the player & smiling, hinting towards a 'Tsundere' nature.
    • Zoe's petting animation reinforces the Tsundere characterization that the "More Than Just Pals" trailer gives her.
  • Even after completing her missions or capturing her, Zoe will still spawn at the Desolate Church.
