The Journals menu consists of notes: collectibles that expand upon the lore of the Palpagos Islands and its residents. There are thirty-nine notes obtainable in-game, and they can be found across the game world. Notes can be obtained by finding small pedestals in the world, atop which a digital tablet sits surrounded by a blue glow, and pressing the interact button when prompted to "Pick up". They do not have to be picked up in any specific order.

Notes can be read by navigating to the Journals sub-menu in Options. Notes that have not yet been obtained by the Player have a title of "??????". When reading, each note is accompanied by an image relating to the text in the note.

Note unlocks are limited to the one who interacts with it; obtaining one does not unlock it for all players in a Multiplayer server.

Lily Everhart

Lily Everhart has four readable notes.

Lily's diary describes her disgust for humanity's greed and contrasts it with her opinion of Pals: "adorable", "noble beings". She believes that humans and Pals used to, and are supposed to live in a "harmonious coexistence". Writing about the Free Pal Alliance, she describes their commandments and their involvement in hiring the PIDF to protect the Wildlife Sanctuaries surrounding the islands. She is suspicious of the fact that the FPA is able to generate large amounts of money only through raids on the Rayne Syndicate's camps.

Lily has written the following notes:

  1. Lily Everhart's Diary - 1
  2. Lily Everhart's Diary - 2
  3. Lily Everhart's Diary - 3
  4. Lily Everhart's Diary - 4

Marcus Dryden

Marcus Dryden has three readable notes.

Marcus' diary describes his dissatisfaction in the state of the Duneshelter and the Greater Palpagos Islands' Desert. It also details his scheme in secretly selling narcotics to the people, and then later using the PIDF to arrest them for possession, getting his product back to sell again. The types of narcotics Marcus deals include "stims" (presumably High Grade Medical Supplies) and "white sand" (presumably crushed Cinnamoth scales).

Marcus has written the following notes:

  1. Marcus Dryden's Diary - 1
  2. Marcus Dryden's Diary - 2
  3. Marcus Dryden's Diary - 3

Zoe Rayne

Zoe Rayne has five readable notes.

Zoe's diary details her connection to the Rayne Syndicate, and recounts her meeting, partnership, and escape with her Grizzbolt. The relationship between the Syndicate and the Free Pal Alliance is touched on, being described as "complicated" throughout the long history of both groups. She ponders about what lies outside of the Palpagos Islands, stating that she has heard about people who come from beyond, and also wonders why she is even guarding a Tower in the first place.

Zoe has written the following notes:

  1. Zoe Rayne's Diary - 1
  2. Zoe Rayne's Diary - 2
  3. Zoe Rayne's Diary - 3
  4. Zoe Rayne's Diary - 4
  5. Zoe Rayne's Diary - 5

Victor Ashford

Victor Ashford has three readable notes.

Victor's diary describes his experimentation on Pals and how he created Shadowbeak. It details the process of creating new species of Pals interestingly without breeding, but by using equipment for altering DNA sourced from "outside". Victor theorises that Pals "inherently possess a distinct energy source essential for their own existence" as a result of the only successful condensation occurring when administering the distilled Pals to a Pal of the same species.

Victor has written the following notes:

  1. Victor Ashford's Diary - 1
  2. Victor Ashford's Diary - 2
  3. Victor Ashford's Diary - 3
