Characters refer to the people and/or various individuals that players can meet while playing the game.

There are a number of characters that can be encountered in Palworld, including the player character. As pals have human or near-human intelligence, it's possible many characters will be pals.

Main Characters

The Player Character

The game's trailer and released images mostly feature a redheaded female human player character. In the image to the right, we also see a redheaded male.

Upon loading into a world for the first time, the player will be able to customize their own unique character by picking from certain options of different hairstyles, face shapes, skin tones, and eyes, as well as sliders to adjust body shape and voice options.

Note: Once created, no changes can be made to the character's physical appearance. There will possibly be a feature added in a later patch to allow you to change this.[1] As of v0.2.0.6, this has been changed. The apperance can now be changed using the Antique Dresser.

Player characters have the option to band together and create Guilds while exploring the Palpagos Islands.

Player characters also have the option to name their Pals, which is limited to 24 letters.[2]

Faction Leaders

Side Characters

NPCs are found all throughout the Palpagos Islands. They are usually found sitting next to a campfire or in settlements, but there are some soldiers and traders that will wander around certain areas.

Fellow Survivors

Depending on where the player chooses to begin their adventure, they can encounter a single person nearby who will give them basic advice about the world (such as large Pals, nighttime, or certain areas being dangerous), before handing over a small amount of material after the player talks to them:

  • Expedition Survivor - if the player starts at Windswept Hills, Plateau of Beginnings
  • Cowardly Islander - if the player starts at Sea Breeze Archipelago, Reef
  • Mercenary with a Wounded Knee - if the player starts at Sea Breeze Archipelago, Castaway Beach
  • Cowardly Victim - if the player starts at Marsh Island
  • Desert Runaway - if the player starts at Eastern Wild Island
  • Vagrant Challenger - if the player starts at Forgotten Island
  • Resigned Islander - if the player starts at Ice Wind Island If the player starts at Windswept Hills, Flying Fish Coast, there will be no one nearby to interact with.

Note: Attacking a survivor will cause PIDF soldiers to suddenly spawn nearby and promptly attempt to shoot down the player.

Merchants

The Pal Merchant will allow you to sell Pals and buy Pals you may not already have. This will not include illegal pals from Restricted Zones. Can be found in Duneshelter, Fisherman's Point, Small Settlement or wandering in the world.

Currently, Red Wandering Merchants are unable to inflict damage as a combatant & not useful for anything other than purchasing Items. this may be true for other Merchants as-well

Islanders and Settlers

Some of the locals can be found scattered around the Palpagos Islands. These NPCs generally only have dialogue, but occasionally, some will give the player items for speaking with them.

  • Skilled Islander
  • Innkeeper
  • Village Chief
  • Gossiping Villager
  • Enthusiastic Amateur Researcher
  • Reliable PIDF Officer
  • Flame-worshipping Villager
