Dungeons are instanced locations found throughout the Palpagos Islands. They contain unique enemy encounters, multiple loot chests, and at least one guaranteed Alpha Pal at the end. Dungeons are a major source of experience, rare items, and progression materials throughout the game.

Dungeons spawn semi-randomly across the world. Only a limited number of dungeons are open at any given time; when one dungeon closes, another opens elsewhere.

Each dungeon:

  • Belongs to a specific tier
  • Has a defined pool of possible Alpha Pals
  • Contains multiple loot chests throughout
  • Ends with one guaranteed Alpha Pal boss and two guaranteed chests

Dungeon tier, Alpha Pal pool, and possible lotus drops (Stamina Lotus (S) Stamina Lotus (S), Carrying Lotus (S) Carrying Lotus (S), Speed Lotus (S) Speed Lotus (S), Life Lotus (S) Life Lotus (S), Power Lotus (S) Power Lotus (S)) are influenced by the biome in which the dungeon appears.

Some Pals can only be encountered within dungeons, including Mau Mau and Killamari Killamari. In addition, certain Pal species may appear as Alpha bosses during times of day when their non-dungeon variants are normally unavailable.

There is no time limit for completing a dungeon. If the player dies inside a dungeon, they are removed and prompted to select a respawn point. All dropped items can be recovered at the dungeon entrance.

Dungeons despawn and relocate after approximately 200 minutes, regardless of whether they have been completed.

Farming and Progression

End-game dungeons are considered one of the most effective sources for farming Legendary Accessories. In addition, defeating or capturing a dungeon’s final Alpha Pal awards nearly twice the experience compared to capturing a non-dungeon variant.

In the early game, dungeons frequently contain large deposits of Paldium, making them especially valuable when located near a fast travel point.

Dungeon Layouts and Exploration

Dungeons are generated using a limited set of predefined layouts composed of interconnected rooms and corridors. While enemy placement and encounters vary, the overall structure follows recognizable patterns.

Based on the rooms encountered shortly after entering, it is often possible to determine the general direction of the boss room early in a run. Certain layout features, such as long corridors or flooded passages, tend to indicate progression toward the final chamber.

Navigation

The following strategies can help players efficiently explore and clear dungeons:

  • Leaving a cheap, disposable item (such as a Paldium Fragment) in rooms that have already been explored can serve as a simple navigation marker.
  • Fast, small ground mounts significantly improve traversal speed.
    • Fenglope is especially effective due to its double-jump ability.
    • For frequent dungeon exploration, breeding Fenglope with Swift, Runner, and Legend passive skills is recommended for maximum movement speed.
  • Flooded corridors are more likely than other passages to lead toward the boss room, though this is not guaranteed in every dungeon.
  • Enemy density tends to increase closer to the boss room, providing another indirect indicator of progression.

Dungeon layouts reward methodical exploration and awareness rather than brute-force clearing of every path.

If the final Alpha Pal is not the desired species, moving approximately one to two rooms away and returning may cause the boss to reroll from the same dungeon pool. This behavior appears to be unintentional and may change in future updates.

Unique Dungeons

Terraria Dungeon

The Terraria Dungeon is a unique, non-random dungeon introduced in version 0.6.0. Unlike standard dungeons, it does not rotate locations or layouts and features fixed encounters, enemies, and bosses themed after Terraria.

This dungeon includes:

  • Terraria-exclusive enemies and bosses
  • Unique weapons and items
  • Two dedicated boss encounters
  • Exclusive schematics obtainable from loot chests

The Terraria Dungeon is accessible at any player level, though it is recommended for players level 45 and above due to enemy difficulty.

Throughout the dungeon, players encounter a wide variety of Terraria-themed monsters, some of which can be captured. Upon defeating the final boss, players unlock access to an additional challenge via the Celestial Sigil, which is obtained from the final loot chest.

The dungeon’s fixed structure and scripted encounters distinguish it from the procedurally placed dungeons found throughout the Palpagos Islands.
