Direhowl (Japanese: ガウルフ Gaurufu) is a Neutral element Pal.
Appearance
Direhowl is a medium sized wolf-like Pal. Its fur is a relatively unremarkable monochromatic colour scheme of black and white, with black making up the head and most of the body, and white making up the face, legs, mane and tail.
Behavior and habitat
Typically, a violent Pal that will attack the player on sight, emitting loud snarls as a sign of hostility. In the wild, Direhowl roam in small groups and hunt smaller Pals such as Flopie and Jolthog Cryst in packs, encircling the prey.
In addition to its hunting behavior, this Pal will often show up to scavenge the remains of both Pals and humans shortly after conflicts conclude.
Utility
Direhowl is the fastest ground mount in the game when not considering Active Skills or Passive Skills, making it a great travelling companion.
Direhowl is also useful as a mining companion because of its Fierce Fang ability that allows it to travel and carry the player while they are encumbered.

- This Pal is blamed for the lack of humans in the Eastern Wild Island.
- Their name appears to be a play on the name dire wolf, an extinct species of wolf, and the word howl.
- The Japanese name may be a mix of がるる garuru (Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound a wolf makes), and 負 fu which means Negative in Japanese, or possibly wolf.
- This pal shares some similarities with the Day and Dusk forms of the Pokémon Lycanroc.
